My dog's bed is drenched in clear liquid and she's panting. Why?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Labrador Retriever | Female | spayed | 3 years and 6 months old | 70 lbs

My 3 yr old chocolate lab was laying on her bed and when I went to see her her bed was drenched in some sort of liquid. No odor and looked like water. Not sure if she threw it up or if it came out somewhere else. Just concerned because there was SO much of it and she was panting really hard.

Poor Lucy! It could be that she threw it up given that it was a lot of liquid. Panting can be a sign of pain, and vomiting could have been painful to her. Vomiting in dogs can be due to a GI illness, eating something rotten, pancreatitis, or a foreign body. If she has only vomited this once, I would try a home remedy to see if that helps before having to take her into the vet. Withhold food for 12-24 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in her normal diet. If the vomiting continues in the absence of food, she vomits the bland diet, develops diarrhea, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, she will need to see a vet right away.
