Is there a green/holistic option to get rid of fleas? I don't like using chemicals on my kitties.

There are non-chemical ways to deter fleas, but they are nowhere near as effective as a good quality topical or oral product from your vet. If chemicals are a problem, you can use borax. Sprinkle it into rugs, into corners and under furniture, use a broom to work it into the fibers and let it sit for hours, days even. It won't hurt you or your pet to have it present. Then vacuum it up, reapply as needed. Food grade diatomaceous earth can be gotten from a health food store and worked into the rugs and corners in the same way as borax. These treatments aren't as fast and effective as chemical insecticides but they can help. Get a flea comb and comb your cats at least daily. Have a bowl of soapy water on hand to drop the fleas you remove from your pets into. Bathing you cats, even with a regular pet shampoo can help as well. Any shampoo will kill fleas if the cats are lathered from nose to tail and left to soak in it for ten minutes. They won't be happy, but it will suffocate the fleas that are on them. Use a drop of plain mineral oil in each eye or a small strip of a plain ophthalmic ointment, not anything medicated. This will allow you to lather their entire body, face included, but will protect their eyes from irritation.
