My dog accidentally took too much gabapentin. Will she be okay?

15 yr old Jack Russell takes 100mg gabapentin 2x every day. Took 3x today by accident. She is 28 pounds. Will she be okay?

Yes, this should be just fine. Gabapentin is frequently dosed three times daily in many dogs, so this isn't uncommon at all. It also has a very high margin of safety, so I wouldn't expect to see any problems unless she ingested the entire bottle at once :) She may be a bit more drowsy than usual, but otherwise should be fine.

    Gabapentin can be given to dog for seizures or as a pain relief. The dose for seizures is higher, and even if she was taking it for pain, the dose she received was still within the dose range recommended by Plumb's Veterinary Drug Handbook. She might be a little more sedated, but she should be fine.
