Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Male | neutered
I have a question concerning my cat I just neutered him yesterday And he has refused to poop since then Should I be worried? He is 5 months old and very active. The neutering incision is healing but he foamed (spittle) alot yesterday The cat's name is Spooky. He has been eating. Although he didn't eat yesterday. He started eating today. He has not been active since the surgery. He spends most of his time sleeping and growling if anyone comes close. He also scratches his incision on the floor.

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! It is not uncommon to not defecate immediately after surgery because it could be due to the anesthesia drugs that were given. However, him being withdrawn could be from pain or discomfort and I recommend that you avoid him scratching at the incision as that will delay healing. I recommend that you have him re-evaluated by your veterinarian to make sure that everything looks good after the surgery. If he is otherwise eating and drinking and he starts defecating and you think that the incision looks good then you may just continue to monitor him for now. Good luck!

This could be normal post surgery. Anesthesia can actually slow down their bowels. I would make sure he is drinking plenty. You can mix some water in with his normal food to ensure he is getting enough water. If he still hasn't gone to the bathroom by tomorrow morning, I would definitely have your vet take a look at him to ensure the neuter incision looks okay and nothing else is going on. I hope this helps!

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! He is likely fine. This is somewhat common after surgery as sometimes the medications given for anesthesia or for pain relief can decrease the bowel movements. I do not think that you need to give any medications for it or be concerned about it. He will likely be defecating soon. Good luck and have a great day!
