Poor Naja! Coughing can be a sign of several things like a upper respiratory infection (aka kennel cough), heart disease, pneumonia, tracheal irritation or tracheal collapse, a fungal infection and much more. Hopefully since you say it sounds like she is choking that she just has an upper respiratory infection. Most upper respiratory infections will cause dogs to hack (sounds like choking) and then sometime even spit up some white foam. Unfortunately, since I cannot see her and do an exam I cannot say this for sure. I would definitely have your vet take a look at her. Your vet will be able to listen to her heart and lungs and do blood work or X-rays if needed. Your vet will also be able to prescribe her some antibiotics and cough suppressant if needed. If an upper respiratory infection goes left untreated, it has the potential to turn into a pneumonia which can make them much sicker. I hope this helps!
