Why does my dog have golf ball lumps on his neck after infection?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Coonhound! His whole head and throat was infected and I treated him with penicillin shots and now I can just feel a little in the throat area and below it are 2 knots like golf balls on each side above his front shoulders. Any suggestions?

That really is quite significant swelling but more information on the original diagnosis would be required to advise accurately and you should contact the original vet and inform them of the masses. The lumps you can feel may be enlarged lymph nodes which drain the head of infection and inflammation but can also be enlarged due to tumors - biopsy may be required to assess fullly
