Dog scratching after Trifexis. Is the flea medicine not working?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Yorkshire Terrier | Female | unspayed | 2 months and 29 days old | 5 lbs

My dog, Minnie Mae, has started Trifexis as of last Wednesday. The information it comes with, states that it should kill fleas instantly, and prevent them. I have taken Minnie Mae outside to use the bathroom, and she has started to scratch a lot. She hadn't been scratching, but then again I had been training her inside only. Is the Trifexis not working?

The fact that she is scratching does not automatically means that fleas are the cause, there are many causes for scratching such as allergies, mites, fungal infections and bacterial infections. if in doubt take her to the vet in order to get her checked.
