My vaccinated dog scratched me and it bled. Do I need a rabies shot?

Pet's info: Dog | Shih Tzu | Male | unneutered | 1 year and 5 months old | 10 lbs

Hi! I was playing with my dog and he accidentally scratched me with his teeth and it bled. He is already vaccinated. Do i need to get anti rabies shot?

No you are fine. I'm glad you have had Apollo vaccinated against rabies. Rabies is spread from infected animals primarily by biting as the virus is in the saliva. The animals appear sick, disoriented and sometime drool as they lose the ability to swallow. Rabies is a fatal disease for animals and people that is why rabies vaccinations are so important.     Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Dogs can’t transmit anything to us by a scratch. If you cleaned it right after it happened you should be ok. If you notice it’s warm to the touch, swollen, or having discharge, then I would be worried it’s infected and you would need to see your doctor. You only need a shot if you are bitten.
