Why is my house-trained dog suddenly pooping inside and destructive?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Female | spayed | 6 years and 4 months old | 75 lbs

My 6 year old female lab has been a house dog for several years now without having an accident in the house, but in the last 4 months she has had several episodes where she tears down mini blinds has chewed door facing at our back door and then has pooped in house. This is not everyday. Her poop is loose when she has accident but when she goes outside its normal. What can be going on?

I am not sure if Bella is urinating in the house or just defecating. I would start by taking her to a vet for a good physical exam. It is possible she is sick with a possible urinary tract infection vs other issue causing her abnormal behavior. If the exam shows she is healthy I would start looking at possible changes in her environment that could be causing stress. You can try composure to help decrease anxiety. I would make sure she is getting plenty of exercise too because exercise helps with anxiety. Hope this helps and thanks for using pet coach
