My dog has a non-itchy pimple-like bump on its leg. What is it?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

My dog has this patch on its leg where there is a pimple (like a mosquito bite) is on it. He is healthy, no itchiness and such but we like to participate in a dog show coming this sept 23rd. So is there any cure for this patch.

Hi and thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Sorry to hear about Bingo. Without actually seeing this in person and examining the area there is unfortunately not much you can do. This could be a bacterial problem commonly caused by a staph bacteria that lives on the surface of the skin referred to as bacterial dermatitis or staph pyoderma. Other things this could be- a reaction to an insect, spider, flea, tick bite, a problems with a skin mite, a fungal infection, an epidermal cyst, or other. I would advise seeing your veterinarian so they can examine it more closely and then give you a good treatment plan to try to get this cleared up quickly. It may be hard to get the hair growth back in that time and it's possible this could get worse or suffer more hair loss. Your vet can get a thorough history and do a thorough exam of the lesion. They can then advise diagnostics if needed such as a skin scrape, woods lamp exam, fungal culture, etc. Once that is done, a sound treatment plan can be discussed and implemented. Otherwise you are only guessing at what this is. Good luck with Bingo.
