My dog has a soft, fluid-like lump near his anus. Should I worry?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | English Springer Spaniel | Male | neutered | 9 years and 3 months old | 25 lbs

I was just grooming my English springer and found a small pink hairless lump below his anus about 3-4 inches below and soft and fluid like?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach and attaching a picture. I recommend having a vet take a look at the lump and sticking a needle in it. It looks like it could be a cyst (fluid-filled mass) Which is not concerning. If not, they can look at the cells of the mass under a microscope and possibly determine if it is something serious. They may recommend removing it while its small or continuing to monitor for growth. Good luck and kisses to Jasper!
