My puppy has a recurring red eye lump. Could it be cherry eye?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | unspayed | 11 months and 7 days old | 22.5 lbs

My 11 month old masti bull female pup has what appears to be a stigh (sp?) in her left eye. This is the third time it has appeared and it's usually gone by morning that's why I hadn't taken her to a vet. This time it's red and I'm very concerned

That is a prolapse of the third eyelid gland, or cherry eye. It is common in that breed. It can often come and go when they are that small but will only go away completely with surgery to repair it. It typically does not cause any pain though and has potential to get larger. The smaller they are when they get surgery, the better the outcome looks
