My dog's paw is swollen, red, and moist after bandage. What can I do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Boston Terrier | Male | neutered | 1 year and 2 months old

Three days ago Archie started to keep his leg up when walking. I took him to the vet. He told me that there is a callus between the fingers, put cream and wraped his paw up in band. Two days later Archie still keeps his paw up. I took the band off and noticed that area was moist, swollen and red. I think that the area needs to dry and bandaid prevents it. I am afraid that it might become an abscess. I disinfected the area and put baby powder on it to get rid of moist. What else can I do now?

If Archie is licking the foot place an ecollar to prevent him from being able to lick it. You can try soaking the foot in an Epsom salt solution and dry the foot after. I would not recommend repeating the talcum powder. If not better by Monday I would recommend a recheck with his vet to make sure he doesn't have an infection or foreign body (splinter) in the foot. I hope he's better soon. Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
