My dog vomited and is excessively drooling after vaccines. Vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | spayed | 45 lbs

Hi, my dog Lola, a mix, vomited, which is not unusual as she has a picky stomach and spends a good amount of time outside; however, after she vomited, she has continued to salivate excessively. She just received her rabies, DHPP, and Bordatella vaccines yesterday. Is this something we should take her to the vet for right away? I'm concerned, but my husband thinks we should wait a little while and see if she stops. Recommendations please? Thank you.

Poor Lola! This excessive drooling is likely related to nausea. If she received her vaccines yesterday, it can cause some GI upset, and I don't think you need to take her into a vet right away. You can a home remedy first to see if that helps settle her stomach before taking her into the vet. Withhold food for 12-24 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in her normal diet. If she continues to vomit multiple times while withholding food, she vomits the bland diet, develops diarrhea, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, she will need to see a vet right away.
