My cat hacks hairballs, nothing comes up, and her voice is gargled. Is this normal?

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed

My cat appears to have a hairball but when she hacks nothing comes up. Her appetite is strong bowels are normal but her voice sometimes is low and gargled sounding after she tries to throw the hairball up. This has been going on for 2-3 days. Should I be concerned or is this something that will pass on its own

It is good that she is having normal stools and is able to keep down her food so I wouldn't be too alarmed just yet. I would recommend giving her daily Laxatone (from vet office or local pet store of available) to help the passage of the hairball. She likely sounds gurgle after attempts to vomit because of the acid that comes up into her throat, which she should quickly clear. If she is still having problems or starts vomiting up her food then I would worry about a possible blockage at that point and recommend taking her in to your vet. Hopefully she can clear this hairball on her own by the end of the week. Brush Dora daily to help prevent any additional hair ingestion and worsening of the hairball.
