Why is my senior dog suddenly unable to walk with curving paws?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Miniature Pinscher | Male | unneutered | 9 lbs

I have a 12 year old mini pincher. Sunday evening he had weakness in all 4 legs. Within 2-3 hours he could not walk at all. His two front paws are curving in at the toes. He seems a little uncomfortable at times but not in alot of pain. We took him to an emergency vet that same night and they said it could be either a bloodclot on his back or a compressed disk. It has been 2 days now he has urinated but no bowl movement yet. Have you ever heard of anything like this before? Any advice?

Poor Turbo! If he still is unable to walk he should be examined by a veterinary neurologist to determine the exact cause. I am not sure if he was treated with any type of medication or if any diagnostic tests were done, like xrays or bloodwork, but he needs to have a full workup. Besides being a blood clot or disc issue, he could have an infectious disease, caused by trauma, or possibly a congenital issue. Please call yoir vet for a recheck and ask about referral to a specialist.
