My dog's leg wound has yellow pus. Is it infected? What to do?

Hello. My GSD has recently got this cut on her left thigh. She is wearing a collar to stop her licking it. Do you think it is infected? We have been cleaning it daily with warm water. The vet we saw on Sunday said it was not infected but the yellow pus wasn't present then.. any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Hi. I do think that Bella's wound looks infected. It is important to clean the area thoroughly. This would require all if the hair being shaved away leaving just bare skin and the wound. You will then be better able to clean the area well. If you cannot see a vet until tomorrow, use a mild antibacterial dish soap and warm water to clean away all of the sticky build up. You can then apply a topical antibiotic ointment. Make sure the collar stays on so she cannot lick the ointment off. Have your vet look at her again as I think she should be on a prescription antibiotic. The vet can also thoroughly shave and clean the area if you were not able to.
