There are many different classifications of medication that can be used to help treat anxiety in pets. Some are benzodiazepines, such as Valium. Some antidepressants have been found to be beneficial in pets. Some are medications that may also have uses for seizures, some are sedatives and even some anti-histamines may have anxiolytic affects. Your veterinarian will evaluate your pets health and behavior to make the best recommendation for your pet. Some medications are meant for daily use with behavior modification and others may just be for occasional, as needed use. But without modifying environment and training medications alone have limitied efficacy.
