Why is my dog crying when pooping, even though his stool looks normal?

Pet's info: Dog | Beagle | Male | neutered | 36 lbs

Have a 4 year old beagle that started to cry when he poops he's eating good drinking water poop seems normal right now he's asleep right next to me

Hi and thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I recommend having Bandit's anal glands checked by a vet. Dogs have sacs inside their rectum that can become infected and cause pain when defecating. Having the glands checked will also ensure a rectal exam too. This may help narrow down the reason he is in pain. Please do not give any medications until you talk to a vet. Good luck and kisses to Bandit!
