My cat is matted and won't let me brush. Does he need sedation?

what's the best way to get rid of the clumps of hair, i have a cat that will not be brushed . i am thinking about having a vet sedate him so that he can be groomed

If Tom is matted and won't let you brush or shave him, then having him sedated by a veterinarian to be shaved down is a good idea. You can also look in your area for cat groomers as highly experienced ones know how to handle cats and may be able to do it without sedation.
