Why does my cat have a swollen lip with sharp, hook-like bumps inside?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Male | unneutered | 1 year old | 15 lbs

My cat has a fat lip with bumps on the inside of his lip that look like sharp hooks, almost like the texture of his tongue. Bringing him into the vet tomorrow but just wanted to know what I was maybe dealing with.

This could be a few different things, but eosinophilic plaques/rodent ulcers, injuries, or infections would be high on my list. I think it is a good idea that you are going to the vet as some medications and a diet change could bring him relief! The good thing is most of these differentials are very treatable! I hope this helps!
