My dog's paws are red, swollen, and itchy. What helps with allergies?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | American Pit Bull Terrier | Male | neutered | 6 years and 7 months old | 80 lbs

Rocco has seasonal allergies. He was on Zyrtec, but he ended up having to go on antibiotics so now he is not. When I came home today his paws and toes are so red and swollen! The skin has been a little pinker than usual for the last month or so, but today is drasticly worse!!! He has not been in a yard with any fertilizer or poison. It doesn't seem to bother him if I touch them, but he licks them every so often. How can I help him? Would a bath help or irritate it? (Oatmeal and Aloe shampoo)

He will need some stronger allergy medications i'm afraid, baths of any sort will not help this condition in my opinion. take him to your vet and ask a course of Apoquel, this will likely solve the problem.
