Poor Dippy. He likely has skin allergies. The first step is trying to figure out what he has an allergy to. Dogs usually fall into 1 of 3 categories: flea allergies, food allergies and/or environmental allergies. Making sure he is on a good quality flea preventative is the first thing you should do. I highly recommend either Bravecto, Nexgard, Comfortis, Trifexis (flea and heartworm preventative) or Simparica. Then you have to get allergy medication from your vet. If his skin is infected then he will also need a short course of antibiotics to be prescribed to get his skin to heal well. A topical aloe based or oatmeal based shampoo may also help, but typically won't work by itself. Oral pet formulated fish oils also provide a natural anti-inflammatory component to pets skin and can be used in conjunction with the other treatments mentioned above. Veterinarians are used to dealing with aggressive dogs all the time and he may need to have a sedative/tranquilizer on board to get him properly examined, but this shouldn't prevent him from being able to get the care that he needs (just like any other pet). Therefore I would encourage you to visit your vet and let them know ahead of time that Dippy is aggressive and may require sedation. Here is a website link that also talks about skin allergies in dogs in more detail. http://www.veterinarypartner.com/Content.plx?P=A
