Why is my cat scooting her butt on the floor even after deworming?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Female | spayed | 1 year and 7 months old | 17 lbs

Bijou has started to scoot her booty across the floor. She was dewormed as kitten and again a few months ago. She is indoors only. What could be causing this? I have not changed her food either and it is grain free.

Hi there and thank you for your post! Some causes of her scooting her bottom across the floor could be allergies, irritation, full anal glands or intestinal parasites. I would take Bijou in to your veterinarian and have the anal glands checked to see if they need to be expressed. At this time, I would also advise that you bring a stool sample in with you so your veterinarian can rule out intestinal parasites as a cause. Please don't hesitate to contact me with any further questions / concerns.

Zeno may be having an issue with her anal glands. The glands may have become infected or impacted. Another common cause of scooting like you described is intestinal parasites, especially tapeworms. I would recommend taking Zeno in to the vet to have her anal glands checked and a fecal sample checked for intestinal parasites.
