My Husky's undercoat sheds a lot, is it normal or should I see a vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Husky | Female | unspayed | 11 months and 29 days old | 30 lbs

Husky's under coat is shedding a lot. I groom her every day and a lot of hair just keeps coming off. It's gotten to the point where I pet her and i'm rubbing the hair off. The top coat stays in place and looks great in the sun. Is there something wrong? Should I take her to the vet?

You can certainly take her to the vet for a check-up if you're concerned, but what you're describing sounds completely normal for a husky :) They do have very thick undercoats, and at certain times of the year it comes out in huge tufts and handfuls every single day when you pet them or brush them. As long as you are not seeing bald spots, crusty areas, a rash, or other signs of skin disease, this is likely just normal shedding for a double-coated breed. Hang in there, and keep brushing!
