Why does my pug have raised scabs on his back but isn't itchy?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Pug | Female | spayed | 1 year and 7 months old

Our pug has lots of scabs under his fur on his back. Quite a few all over, but doesn't seem irritated by them. They are only on his back and the scabs are quite raised. Would you have an idea what this could be please?

It sounds like Bugsy could have a skin Staph infection. That would be my best guess without seeing him myself. If it is not severe many times you can treat this with a medicated shampoo. I would try this and if no improvement I would get him to a vet for an exam. I would use this shampoo or one with comparable ingredients: http://www.allivet.com/p-6673-douxo-chlorhexidine-climbazole-mousse-for-dogs-and-cats-68-oz.aspx Lather, let it sit on his coat for 10 minutes and then rinse thoroughly. Do this every 2-3 days. Again, if no improvement in a week to 10 days then I would get him in for an exam. Best wishes!
