Why is my dog gaining weight, drinking more, and has new lumps?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | American Bulldog | Male | unneutered | 8 years and 4 months old | 155 lbs

I have an 8 year old American bulldog. Over the last year he has started gaining a lot of weight, started drinking a lot more water then usual and in the last couple months he has had 1 lump form on his left hip and 1 on his right hip. Both are firm to the touch. I am wondering if you have any insight as to what might be wrong without seeing him in person.

There are many possible reasons for the symptoms you describe but altered thirst and weight gain may indicate hormonal disease such as cushings or fluid retention. I recommend a full vet check and blood or urine screen as soon as possible
