My senior Lab is unsteady, anxious, and disoriented. Is it seizures?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Labrador Retriever | Female | spayed | 9 years and 1 month old | 75 lbs

any ideas about my 10 yr old female lab?? she sometimes becomes unsteady in her gait. kind of stumbles and is very anxious until it passes.she just had an episode 2 days ago. she has had 3 others that i know of, in the past 18 months. thinking seizures, although they don't show up as what some think, as falling down and jerking, etc. she also seems a little disoriented during and after. yesterday, a friend stopped over and he noticed her unsteadiness, but she had not had another episode

Yes, I agree with you, it sounds like seizure behavior however it could also be syncopal episodes (fainting linked with heart disease). I recommend for her to have a vet exam with some bloodwork to start with. Depending on what is found on the exam and bloodwork your vet could possibly prescribe some effective treatment. There is very effective anti-seizure medication as well as effective heart medications. So, if it is one of these two disease processes she may be able to get treatment. I hope this helps. Best wishes to you and Bailey.
