Stray kitten has eye gunk & clear moving substance. What to do now?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | unneutered | 2 lbs

I found this cat outside and I've been cleaning its eyes with warm water and a cotton ball as well as with saline solution. I just applied some terramycin on its eyes hoping that it will help get rid of all that gunk on its eyes. On the 2nd picture there's a clear substance in its eye that moves around when I clean its eye. Is it safe to pull out or should I leave it alone? What else can I do for this kitten? Won't be able to take to vet for 2 more days.

I would not pull that part, if the eye is ruptured and that is part of the vitreous gel that is supposed to be on the inside of the eye, it can cause more damage. All you can do it keep it clean like you are and try a warm compress if the kitten will let you. Kittens can have viral infections such as herpes virus that can cause a horrible conjunctivitis such as this. Yours is pretty severe, and permanent blindness or even loss of an eye may be a result. He may always have long term conjunctivitis and eye infections due to this.
