I know puppies nip and mouth, so everytime Nova bites me I gently direct her towards toys. But even after all toys she still bites me and bites everyone who tries to play with her. I don't think it is something she would grow out of it! I have enrolled her in puppy training and will start next week. I have tried high pitch sounds, i tried positive reinforcement. Do you think puppy training will help?

Puppy training will certainly be helpful, as it will give you a way to sort of learn each other's language under the supervision of a professional. At home with the nipping, you may want to try just getting up and walking away, ignoring Nova. Once she has calmed down, you can then return to playing, and be sure to offer a treat or praise every time she is calm and chewing on her own toys instead of you. Puppies will gradually grow out of being mouthy and nippy, similar to human toddlers, but can have an uptick in chewing again when they start to get their adult teeth at around 6 months of age. Once adults, most dogs will grow out of nipping, especially if you stay on top of training.

It’s normal for puppies to use their mouths to explore the world, and they tend to nip and bite when playing. You can try making a high pitched sound (like saying Ouch! In a high voice) and removing your attention. You can also try giving Bella an appropriate chew toy when she’s wanting to play with her mouth. It’s important to be persistent and make sure you never use your hands when playing. If Bella is biting you over food or treats or if she seems at all aggressive this could be more concerning and I’d recommend seeing a behaviorist.
