Can I use hydrocortisone and Advantage on my dog with fleas?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Papillon | Female | spayed | 13 years and 5 months old | 6 lbs

my Papillon usually does not have fleas. So when she began scratching it took 2 days for me to find a flea and realize whey she is scratching. My question: "Can I use a hydrocortisone cream (for dogs .5%) and put Advantage on her neck?"

I would not put the hydrocortisone cream on Bopsy, as it's not needed in case of fleas. Advantage is absolutely fine to apply to her, and I also recommend giving her Capstar. It's a one time pill that starts killing fleas in 30 minutes, and it's safe to give to her with the Advantage. If you saw one flea, then there definitely is more. You will also have to disinfect the environment. Wash her bedding in hot soapy water, and vacuum the furniture and carpet surfaces. You can use a spray to kill fleas in the house, such as Indorex, or a flea bomb would work well to kill the fleas in the home. I hope this helps :-)
