Pet's info: Cat | Russian Blue | Male | neutered | 1 year and 7 months old
My cat had a complete urethral blockage so took him to vet where he had a catheter and iv fluids. It has happened 4 times now in the space of 3 weeks, each time with same treatment. I fear it will happen once again, he is on antibiotics, changed diet and has lost weight but still urinating everywhere else except litter box which last time lead to another blockage, what can I do? should I see another vet for diff opinion?

You could talk to your vet about him having a perineal urethrostomy surgery so he can't block anymore. The surgery basically amputates the penis so the urethral opening is much larger thus preventing a male cat from blocking so easily. If he has blocked that many times in 3 weeks than the surgery may be a good option for him. If your vet doesn't perform the surgery than you could find another vet that does. So sorry he is having this problem and hope he is all better soon!

Poor Momo! Unfortunately, urethral blockage can be a recurring problem in some cats - studies show that if it happens more than once in the same cat, it's very likely to continue happening. In cases like this, I strongly recommend talking to your vet about something called a perineal urethrostomy (PU) surgery. This procedure basically opens up the urethra in the penis to give the cat a more "female type" urinary opening - in most cases, this effectively prevents any further blockages from occurring in the future. If your vet isn't comfortable discussing or performing the surgery, you could certainly seek a second opinion. This procedure is quite commonly done by many general practitioners and has a high success rate, so would be a very reasonable option to consider for Momo.
