Pet's info: Dog | Shih Tzu | Male | neutered | 1 year and 4 months old
Hello, my shih tzu has Brown pigment on the white of his eye. It started off small and has become pretty big. I also noticed a spot on his other eye. It doesn't seem to bother him and it is not raised or anything. Any ideas what it may be from?

This needs to be examined by your veterinarian as this could be a tumor, Another condition that can cause this is Keratitis sicca or dry eye, which is quite common in Shih Tzus. Both conditions need urgent care, so please see your veterinarian ASAP.

The brown spot itself is not an issue but could be due to chronic inflammation from dry eye (keratoconjunctivitis sicca) which is common in Brachycephalic breeds. I recommend bringing Buddy into your vet’s for a schirmer test to make sure that inadequate tear production isn’t the cause and to give you some peace of mind!
