My rat's painful lump suddenly grew and got hard. What's going on?

My rat has had what I think is a beniegn mammary tumor for some time now. It was small (maybe 3/4 in.) This morning it had blown up to what seems like twice the size it was and is now hard, and she was most definitely in pain, what is going on?

This may indeed be a mammary tumor that is growing very fast all of a sudden. It could have also broken through into the abdomen and caused a hernia, it could also "just" be a hernia, an abscess or a cyst. Please take Joker to your veterinarian for an exam. A tumor can often be removed, and abscesses and cysts can be emptied. Your vet will also give Joker some pain medicine.
