Kitten spay: Ovaries only or full spay? Which is right for her?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | unspayed | 3 months and 18 days old | 3.7 lbs

My kitten will have to be spayed soon I have been doing some reading about just removing her ovaries and leaving the uterus. What are your thoughts on this

As long as all ovarian tissue is removed then that surgery is just as effective as the traditional spay (removing the ovaries and uterus). It usually is a faster procedure and recovery compared to the bigger surgery of removing both. The risk of a problem developing with the uterus is low (it's the ovaries that produce all the hormones that cause issues). As long as your veterinarian is comfortable doing the procedure it is an accepted practice at this time.
