My senior dog cried, tongue out, not moving. Seizure or stroke?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

My 15 year old min rat terrier toy chihuahua woke us up the other morning crying high pitched constant until a picked her up rocking her. Thought she had a bad puppy dream. This morning she lay on the floor making the same sound but her tongue out and not moving. I thought she was dying an grabbed her up rocking her til she stopped shaking and crying. Could it be seizures or a stroke? She walked less than a minute later. I know she's old but she is so energetic for her age.

I would certainly recommend having her get a checkup and possible bloodwork. 2 episodes like this are concerning. If a seizure she will not respond to her name being called during an episode and may seem disoriented afterwards. It's also possible the was having a syncopal episode or sone other cardiac event. Try to log anything abnormal and how long it lasted if anything triggered it, this may help your vet differentiate what is going on.
