Why is my dog peeing while laying down and not eating? Is she sick?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | spayed | 30 lbs

I have a pit mix they told us she was around 18 months when we got her so she'd be around 2 now. The last 3 days she hasn't been eating that well and while she's in the house laying down she's just peeing and doesn't seem to know she's doing it. She never goes potty in the house. Yesterday afternoon was the first time we noticed it happening. What could cause this?

Oh zoey is such a cute girl! Leaking urine like this can potentially be caused by a urinary tract infection. I would bring her in to see her veterinarian so they can obtain a urine sample and see if she needs antibiotics. Female dogs can also develop primary urinary incontinence, where they leak urine when relaxed and there is also medication for this. But in these cases they feel totally normal otherwise. Your vet will help distinguish what could be going on and get her appropriate treatment! Hope zoey is feeling better soon!
