My 7 year old Staffordshire Bull Terrier has black ink like blobs in his left eye. Are they anything to worry about and what are they?

It's possible there could be an injury to the eye if it appeared suddenly, or a congenital defect if it's always been there. However, if you are concerned, the spots appeared suddenly, or it seems bothersome to Ralph, having it examined by your local vet or a veterinary ophthalmologist is best.
