Why is my senior dog coughing, hacking, and acting so tired?

My 12yr old pitt. Which is in great shape is aging but gracefully he, s just today started a cough but not like a hairball cough its more through his nose and he acted like it wore him out after the hacking. He, s been just kinda laying around... should I be worried? And the cough hasn't continued, just the one good spell.

I'm sorry to hear that your dog hasn't been feeling well. Coughing and lethargy could be a sign of underlying diseases like heart disease, heartworm disease, chronic bronchitis, cancer, among others. I'm glad to hear that he only had one episode of coughing, but the ongoing lethargy is a bit more concerning. I do recommend taking him to the vet for an exam and possibly for chest x-rays to get to the bottom of this issue. Better safe than sorry. I hope that all goes well!
