Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Yorkshire Terrier | 4 years and 7 months old

Nikki has been panting incessantly but especially at nighttime for the past few days. Her abdomen feels distended. She is still eating Nd drinking water as she normally. Also, she is eliminating as normal.

Poor thing! Panting can be a sign of abdominal pain and discomfort. I would bring her in for evaluation. Blood work will evaluate organ function, and give a hint if there may be an infectious process. She could have pancreatitis, a foreign body obstruction, or it could be a metabolic condition (although less likely with the sudden onset), or a cardiac abnormality. I would need more information to be a bit more helpful such as if she has been vomiting. I would be happy to consult with you where we could ask and answer questions, but I think she is a candidate for a trip to the veterinarian.
