Puppy vomiting, lethargic, and chewing everything. Should I see a vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | unspayed | 2 months and 2 days old | 8.6 lbs

My puppy has been gagging, thrown up clear liquid three times and sleeping more than usual. She likes to chew/lick random things like the floor, the walls, a basket, doggie pad, the table legs, and dirty laundry. Basically whatever she finds. We try and stop her but she likes to hide under the couch. What should I do?

Hi, I am sorry to hear that Marquessa is so sick. Puppies can get into all sorts of stuff and it sounds like she is very curious about her environment. There are many reasons why your sweet puppy may be vomiting and acting very nauseated. She may have a virus of her intestines if she is not vaccinated and has been exposed to other dogs (particularly Parvo virus). Marquessa may have a piece of any of the things she has ingested stuck in her stomach or intestines causing her symptoms at home. Marquessa may become dehydrated very quickly when she is vomiting so many times and cannot keep anything down. She is also acting lethargic (sleeping more than usual) because she is pretty sick. Your veterinarian or local emergency veterinarian can quickly sort out this problem for you and get initial treatments for her that she needs right away to start feeling better. They may want to take xrays to look for foreign objects she could have ingested and/or run a parvo test to make sure she does not have this infection. Either way, I am sorry she is so ill and I would highly recommend getting her to a vet as soon as you can so that she does not get worse. I hope she is feeling better soon and gets the treatments she needs.
