What should I do if my cat got a chemical burn from a flea collar?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | British Shorthair | Female | spayed | 6 lbs

My cat was exposed to fleas so I put a flea collar on her. But after just a few days she was acting weird so I took it off. When I took it off she had what looks like a chemical burn around her neck. She keeps trying to scratch it and I am very worried about what happened to her

Poor kitty! There are lots of products on that market, some better than others. Many over the counter products contain older drug technology. The only collar that I use is a collar called Seresto. Oral flea preventatives are also a good option. Topical Revolution works well too. She should heal just fine now that the collar is off, and I would prefer to use an oral now to avoid any further skin irritation.
