My dog has a hard, movable lump under her skin. Could it be a tumor?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Female | spayed | 8 years and 9 months old | 15 lbs

My pug Chihuahua mixed dog has at least one large pea sized mass attached to the under side of her skin on her back, it's hard and moves with her skin. its been there for months at least and I'm worried. There is no visible discoloration or a whole which makes me think it might be a tumor.

I know how this can be concerning for you to find a possible mass on your pet. Especially an older pet like Tiny. Masses on he skin can go either way and be either benign or cancerous. Sometimes it is easy to tell non-cancerous masses just be looking at them, but often times it requires a sample to be taken of the mass and then sending it off for analysis. Since it has been there for more than a couple of weeks, it is likely a mass and should be sampled by your vet to determine exactly what this is and if we should be concerned or not. I would recommend scheduling an appt for Tiny in the next week or so to get things sorted out. Best of luck to you and Tiny and I hope everything works out well for you both!
