My dog is terrified of thunder. How can I help calm her down?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Maltese | Female | unspayed | 3 years and 10 months old | 4 lbs

Could you please give me some advice on how to calm down a small goofball that is terrified of thunder? I'm not sure if I can find the Thundershirt here in Sarajevo. I might as well look into calming candles or treats. I'm heartbroken to see her like that. Thanks.

A pheromone product such as the Adaptil collar or DAP Diffuser may decrease anxiety. Distracting Bella with toys and play during storms may also help. Close all windows and doors tightly and turn on the radio or television. Contract your veterinarian to discuss using a sedative when necessary. In the US, there is a newer drug that can be used o treat noise aversion. It is called Sileo. I am unsure of its availability overseas. You can also ask your veterinarian bout this option.
