Cat straining to pee after catheter and neuter. Is he re-blocked?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

We took our cat to vet. First sign he could not pee. They gave him a cath. Antibiotics and valium. Kept him for 2 or 3 days. Also neutered him. This am said he peed some and felt they cleared blockage. He is straining to pee. Some drops have come out. Does he just need time after having a cath. and neuter? Vet is not calling us back. I need help. I just had to put one down he was our door cat. I don't want to lose another. Help please.

Oh no, I'm so so sorry! If he is still straining to pee, then yes I would have him seen by a vet as soon as possible. Unfortunately, cats who have problems with blocking can reblock again, and I would call around other vets to find one to see him now if your vet hasn't called you back.

I'm sorry to hear that you're having to go through this! If your cat is again straining to urinate, there is a good chance that he has developed a urethral obstruction again. It is not uncommon to have a recurrence of an obstruction. Since your vet is not calling you back right now, you should look for a local ER vet that can address your cat's concerns immediately.
