Should I adjust my dog's food when adding vegetables and treats?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Cavalier King Charles Spaniel | Female | spayed | 4 years and 9 months old | 17 lbs

Right now Chloe is getting 1/3 cup kibble in the AM. With an ounce of canned and 1/4 cup kibble in the PM with an ounce of canned. If I wanted to add vegetables to her diet should I reduce the food to 1/4 cup twice per day along with the ounce of canned twice per day? Also is is still ok to give her the two biscuits I've been giving her? All this would be approximately 25% of her diet. Is this balanced? 10% would be vegetables, 10% would be treats and 5% would be supplements. (342 calories)

Hello. It sounds like you are giving her a good diet and the plan you have outlined looks like a nice balanced diet. I would just confirm that the diet you are feeding (the kibble) is a good diet that is high in fibre and low in fat for Chloe. Ask your vet what they recommend in the area you are in, but it sounds like you are doing a good job!
