My dog threw up multiple times and is lethargic. Is it an emergency?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | spayed | 2 years and 4 months old | 49 lbs

My 2 year old mixed breed (50lbs) threw up twice yesterday (7AM & 9:30AM), but was playful with the other dogs, running after squirrels This morning she threw up again at 4:30; it appears she threw up her dinner from last night at 5:30. She seems lethargic and has no interest in getting out the bed. Should I be concerned? Can the vet wait until this afternoon?

Vomiting several times can cause severe dehydration that could be life threatening, it would be best if you could do whatever you can to bring her to the vet as soon as possible in order to get the treatment she needs.

Lethargy is a systemic sign that should ideally checked as soon as possible as could mean that whatever is affecting her is actually quite severe. Abdominal discomfort may be present as well. Differential diagnosis include mainly gastrointestinal diseases (inflammation/infection) at this stage. Please do not hesitate to contact us again on the forum or by requesting a consultation (where you can post pictures ) if you have any more questions or to discuss it any further.
