I didn't give my dog a bath for four months or more and today I did after I played with him in the yard.i went through with a flea comb and kept seeing a few specks of dirt with each pass.i wet the dirt and it didn't turn red but it did smear brown, but not like red like I've seen in flea dirt pictures.i also put vet prescribed preventative on him the first of every month.so is it just left over dirt from not bathing for so long even after a bath?

Given that he hasn't had a bath in four months, you were playing with him in the yard previously to his bath, and the fact that the dirt didn't turn red (which it would with flea dirt), then yes it is likely leftover dirt from not bathing for so long.
