My dog's benign skin cyst is oozing fluid. Do I need a vet visit?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Yorkshire Terrier | Female | spayed | 6 years and 6 months old | 12 lbs

My dog sees Dr. Drelich at Petco Pet Education Center Veterinary Hospital in Poway, Ca. She has a couple of skin cysts that he has determined are benign. However, today one of the smaller cysts on her back started to ooze clear fluid. I cleaned the area and put an antibiotic ointment on it. Should I be worried and take her in the vet?

I would not be worried about it. Cysts often rupture and then fill back up. You treated it just right. I would just monitor it and if for any reason it starts to look infected or is not healing then you should take her back in to have it checked. Hope this helps. Best wishes!
