My puppy's canine tooth broke off. Do I need to see a vet right away?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Miniature Schnauzer | Female | unspayed | 4 months and 18 days old | 9 lbs

Today while playing, my puppy ran behind me while I was laying back. I heard her cry out. When I checked her over, I noticed her canine tooth had broken off. I don’t see any tooth left in the hole it came from. Should I be concerned.

You should have her seen by your veterinarian to confirm the entire tooth came out. Any small remnant of tooth or tooth root left in can lead to infection. Her adult canine should erupt and take the place.
